Ryan & Macy | Small Town Wisconsin Wedding
Although I'm based primarily in North Dakota, when my friends Ryan and Macy asked me to travel to Wisconsin to photograph their wedding I just couldn’t say no. On September 30, 2017, this glorious couple got married at The Barn at Trinity Peak in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
I could say so much about these two and how appreciative I am that they gave me the opportunity to be with them on their special day. But I don’t want to turn the spotlight off them, so I may just write a separate blog post about my ties to this couple. Suffice it to say that Ryan and Macy are two of the most supportive (and most in love) people I have ever met. The family and friends at the wedding knew long before they got engaged that this day was coming!
Macy is from Minnesota and Ryan is from Illinois. They met at CrossFit 701 in Fargo, ND, where Ryan had recently accepted a job as gym manager and Macy had decided to check out what that crazy CrossFit thing was all about. Ryan soon had to amend his policy of not dating a member at a gym he worked at…the connection the two felt was just too strong to ignore.
When the two got engaged, they decided to wed at the halfway point between their families, so each side would have to travel equally. They found a venue that had an opening on their wedding date and snatched it up.
Getting married in a city you've never been to and have no friends or relatives in has its challenges.
We couldn't be at the venue until 10am, so the morning was spent between a mix of decorating and getting ready. As you might expect, we quickly started to run behind our ideal schedule. But no matter how much time we had (or didn't have), I made it a priority to get shots like this:
The first look is coming. We had a double first look: Macy wanted her dad, Michael, to see her before Ryan got to...his first glimpse at Macy that day!
Macy and Ryan’s day was filled with happiness and emotion. As a photographer, I’ve got to love people who are so expressive with little to no coaxing. I mean, just look at Ryan tearing up simply because he knew the first look was about to happen!
You've gotta love a wedding party that's willing to have a bit of fun. Wait for it...
We ended with a big group hug, because hugs are the best.
Before the ceremony, Ryan and Macy exchanged love letters. Macy said she couldn't get through the first two sentences without tearing up. Ryan couldn't keep the happy tears back either!
Then the wedding party and family members gathered in the room for a group prayer led by Ryan's dad, Tom.
Last minute jacket adjustment...
And let's get these two married!
Ryan and Macy's dog, Nala, made a special appearance just for the big event.
At the ceremony...pure joy. Just pure joy.
Ready for some reception fun?
And of course...there's always time for sunset photos. Even if it's only 5 minutes.
Congratulations, Ryan & Macy! I know you'll have many, many happy years ahead of you. And trust me—it gets better and better every year!
