Scott & Sam
Scott’s vows stopped rather abruptly during the ceremony, and we all assumed that he quit reading because he was getting choked up. But later, in the party bus after the ceremony, I caught Scott whispering into Sam’s ear. He explained that he had stopped reading because he had written, scrapped, and rewritten the same part over and over, trying to find the right words to truly tell her how much he cared. But when the time came to read the vows, he knew the words weren’t right, so he stopped. But in the cramped, loud party bus, with beers in hand, he whispered the words he wanted to say as her eyes filled with tears.
I’m not going to lie — Scott and Sam are a special couple for me. See, I know both Scott & Sam from our gym, CrossFit 701. The two of them met actually met through the gym! So, over the years, I’ve gotten to see this couple’s relationship grow from the very beginnings to the day Scott got down on one sweaty knee after a workout and surprised Sam (and the entire freaking gym) with a proposal.
I can’t undercut how thrilled I was when Sam contacted me shortly after about engagement photos and the wedding. Scott and Sam are a fun, laid back couple, and I knew their wedding day would be romantic and beautiful. Leading up to their wedding, Sam described to me her vision of a simple, bohemian wedding with lots of greenery.
Scott & Sam’s wedding day was one of the last gorgeous days in September. Sunlight spilled across their backyard, which transformed into a quiet, gorgeous wedding venue over the summer. We did battle a bit of wind, but thanks to the breeze we didn’t have to worry about overheating.
All around the backyard, little details showed how much work Sam put into her wedding, from the wooden benches crafted by one of the groomsmen to the absolutely stunning dessert table display.
And in her wedding gown, Sam was the central piece to that simple yet radiant theme. Trust me, y’all, when I say she was breathtaking! Maybe it’s because Sam wears her emotions so openly, but she literally glowed with excitement and adoration for her soon-to-be-husband. I’m sure everyone there can vouch that it was impossible not to grin like an idiot for these two lovebirds.
The first look? Yeah. As adorable as I anticipated. Scott turned around and immediately took Sam into his arms.
What a way to end the night.
Congrats, Scott & Sam — here’s to many years together, many WODs together, and laughs and smiles throughout everything!
